TPD Construction
Tom's Letter
Dear Colleague,

     This sum
Tom Dumontmer was an interesting one for  everyone, especially those in the construction industry. Economic and political instability, record heat, and rising fuel and materials prices have all had significant effects on the construction sector.
We at TPD Construction have bee
n fortunate to have not only continued to do well through it all, but have managed to grow and become even stronger. We recently added two new employees to our operation; Kurt Dys as a site superintendent and Josh Howe in our marketing department. We've also wrapped up two of our projects and broken ground on four new ones.
That we have continued to be successful in these times is a
testament to our customers, who have done their part to contribute to our economy by courageously forging ahead with development projects when many have been afraid to invest. It also speaks volumes of our employees, whose teamwork, professionalism and dedication I am thankful for each and every day.

Sincerely,

Tom Dumont

LEEDStephen Dumont Earns
LEED Green Associate Status

The TPD Construction team is proud to announce a recent addition to our portfolio of capabilities. In July of 2011, project manager Stephen Dumont earned the title of LEED Green Associate.  LEED-short for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-is "an internationally recognized green building certification system" (www.usgbc.org) developed by the U.S. Green Building Council to encourage identification and implementation of green building practices. Attaining this status required Stephen to complete coursework and then pass a comprehensive exam, and in doing so he gained extensive knowledge in the latest methods of green building design and construction.

The addition of LEED credentials to Stephen's resume generates several new ways for the TPD team to deliver even more value to our clients. According to Stephen, "Green building is about more than just doing what is right for the environment. Fuel and energy costs will only continue to rise, and when many of these techniques are applied, they'll pay for themselves over time." There are numerous other benefits as well, including increased property values, better living and working conditions for tenants, and improved image for the property owner and resident businesses. Congratulations to Stephen for this accomplishment, and we look forward to the opportunity to provide this service for our clients in future projects.

NeighborBeing a Good Neighbor
Fire at 84 Union St.

A good general contractor realizes that his crew reflects on the image of his company, the project, and in turn, the property owner. Maintaining a positive relationship with neighbors and the community at large is of the utmost importance, and some jobs can require a special level of sensitivity from those on site.

On February 11, 2011, catastrophe struck an apartment building at 84 Union St. in Brunswick, ME. A fire started in a kitchen of the multi-unit apartment building there, destroying several units and requiring a large portion of the building to eventually be demolished. Seventeen people lost their homes and many of their possessions. Worse yet, 3 people were injured, and tragically, one resident eventually lost his life as a result of  his injuries.

As residents began to pick up the pieces, TPD Construction was hired to rebuild the destroyed portion of the building. Because other parts of the structure remained habitable, some residents were able to stay as the work was in progress. Additionally, the building closely abuts a single family residence and shares a driveway with a local food bank.

It was clear from the start that special care should be taken, and on site workers for TPD were mindful of the impact the disaster and resulting construction had on the building's tenants and neighbors. "The people who are still here have already had their lives disrupted by this, so you try to do everything you can to make the process as easy on them as possible," said Nick Johnson, carpenter with TPD. "That means being understanding, polite, and having respect for their space and privacy." Construction on the rebuild will be finished by October 2011.
